About the painting: Long Night Moon
Painted on my 40th birthday during which the winter solstice coincided with the full moon, this is the piece that started the magical journey that became "Translations." It highlights the power of the moon in pulling the tides and reminds us of a continuity in time beyond our control. About the pendant: Cold Moon This piece was inspired by the beautiful words of “Long Night Moon”. The found object moon hangs above iridescent stained glass waters, cold and stunning. About the assemblage: Winter Solstice The seed that started this amazing project is Tova’s birthday, on the Winter Solstice. It is so fitting that she was born on such a magical day, when we welcome light again. I searched for the moon for a long time before this one found me on the beach in Gloucester. This was one of many gifts that I received throughout this process. |
long night
is it my moon
rising, in full,
long view?
my shimmering orb
aglow above the
lapping waters?
or is it merely
a reflection
of some brighter star?
or, perhaps
it is the cold
moon’s long-
light, leaving
me yearning,
exposed adrift
beyond the sea.
