About the painting: Spring
Looking ahead to Spring, this round artwork represents the cyclical nature of the seasons, the many shades of green that will soon be upon us, and the idea of a spring as a spiral that moves multi-dimensionally, never returning to a past place and always creating something anew. About the pendant: Sprout These colors and shapes say spring. This pendant finally offered me a way to use millefiori, the flower-shaped sliced glass cane, as flowers! But my favorite part of this composition isn’t the flowers, the stones or the moon-bead, but the tiny lines emerging at the bottom like new sprouts from the earth in spring. About the assemblage: Sprouting Together The wood comes from the home of Christiane, my friend who provided the fertile soil I needed to set roots and grow in the USA. The sprouts are from different kinds of beans, including the black beans that are a staple in Venezuelan food. |
Spring
Winter’s scars can’t mar her
Sheaves of green, her
Minty sheen
Her lambs and dew her
Milky hew. For
Round she goes
She ebbs and flows
So tender fresh
With robin’s nests and
Winter’s scars are far, from
Muddy boots and
Ruddy youths
Her cycle life
No signs of strife - yet
Winter’s scars upon her;
Seedlings sprout and
Spawning trout,
Daffodils and
Songbird’s trills - harsh
Winter’s scars, they are her.
